Message To keep a long story short, I once messed with a different oiling setup in which I used a sandwich adapter along with an OEM-sized filter. That moved the filter down about an inch. I proceeded to drive the car on the interstate, got sandwiched in traffic and ran over a blown semi-tire (that or hit the moon-cratered median). The tire ripped the filter off, lost oil pressure, couldn't get off the road, toasted the motor. Not fun.

I wouldn't hesitate to run a bigger, longer filter in a track situation. But on the road = no.
